One day we'll all find out the answer to this question one way or the other. Until then, I need a helluva lot more proof than something like this.

World's Energy Crisis Postponed?
by leavingwt intelegraph uk: energy crisis is postponed as new gas rescues the world engineers have performed their magic once again.
the world is not going to run short of energy as soon as feared.
tony hayward, bp's chief executive, said proven natural gas reserves around the world have risen to 1.2 trillion barrels of oil equivalent, enough for 60 years' supply and rising fast.. "there has been a revolution in the gas fields of north america.

Exctraction costs for this nonconventional fuel are much higher than for regular gas. It's only profitable over a certain price point. Also, it requires massive amounts of water as well as the use of toxic chemicals to extract. Yes, it is done below the water table, but there can be accidents.
This is, I think, an important point. I do not think we've reach Peak Oil. But I do think we're are rapidly nearing the end of Cheap Oil. A subtle but important difference. There is oil and natural gas in vast quantities to be had, but it will not be easy or cheap to extract either.
In my poor opinion a century of pumping fossil fuels into the atmosphere sooner or later will have an effect. Having said that, planetary weather changes needs to be looked at in centuries not years or decades for a real understanding of change.
I also think we would be well advised to find another energy source besides one based on fossil fuels. Not just for national and economic security but perhaps for the benefit of the planet.

I don't know if this is going to work or not, but at least Afghanistan is responsible for allowing an attack on the United States, unlike Iraq. I'm not defending Saddam Hussein, nor excusing hideous abuses in Iraq.

Which is your favourite single malt Scotch Whisky, and why?
by lifelong humanist inas a true scot, i'm deeply passionate about most things scottish, any possibly one of our small nation's most successful export is my main favourite - our single malt whisky heritage.. i'm writing this while savouring a 12 year old highland park - distilled in the orkney islands, the most northerly distillery in scotland.
it is one of my favourites - it was my late father's favourite tipple.
yet, only 500m from my house is scotlands oldest legal whisky distillery - glenturret, in crieff.

hhhmmmm ... good question.
If you like a peaty taste, Laphroaig is great. It's a bit heavy for my taste, but it's great in the winter.
Glenfiddich is, to me, a sharp clear single malt with a good aftertaste.
But my favourite is Macallen. Great taste, strong enough to get your attention without overhwhelming. And it's great when you've got an upset tummy.

We need to heed warnings, for our own good.
Religion is little more than one man, or oligarchy, exerting power over masses. Religion is about surrendering one's will and self-determination over to the whims of another man. Not god, but man.
Man is the one who says god says this or that. That's why there are so many religions. Like so many McDonald's franchises. And they ALL claim to be The One And Only True Religion. Bullshit.
You know what? If and/or when god decides that my survival depends on what he has to tell me, then I will listen to god. Not some disembodied troll/poster. Not some pompous, overweight hypocrite.
I'm much more interested in god, and much less interested in those who say they speak for god.
You say if I don't listen to you that I will die? Well ... duly noted. Yawn.

Don't miss anything about it. Don't miss any of the people, any of the "friends" who turned their back on me. Nothing.
Quite the opposite. I can't tell you how many weekday evenings I've thought how glad I am I don't have to go to some dumb ass boring meeting. I can't tell you how many Saturday mornings and Sunday mornings I've actually slept and relaxed instead of doing pointless busy work.

More Beatles Remasters..........
by lepermessiah insorry, i cant resist another beatles topic.. i have picked up all but three of the beatles remasters.. they sound totally brilliant....... i heard a few complaints about the white album (too "muddy" in places) but overall i was very excited about the sound.that album has such an interesting dynamic that i could see how some people would feel that way.
that album is a brilliant muddled mess of styles - only the beatles could pull it off.. abbey road is still the album i am getting a big kick out of - here comes the sun you can hear the pick hitting the strings on the guitar, mean mr mustard, the intro sounds like you are sitting in the room with ringo, etc...........i keep playing with the balance knob on my stereo to hear the different channels and really hear the details......great fun .

I priced out the Beatles rock band Xbox game, with drum and guitar(s) at around $170.
Anyone play it yet? Worth it as maybe a Christmas pressie?

Really? Okay I'll check it out.
I've listened to the remastered "Across the Universe" and it's fantastic. Totally different and the sound is so sharp.
